Karli R. Johnson 12-17-2011

There is a story of a lover, a fighter, and an amazing friend. Thursday morning Karli had an aortic dissection - doctors felt it was safer to separate Bodie and Karli. He pulled through like a champ, 5lbs 1 oz 18 in, Karli had to get through the next 48 hours. She was so brave and courageous through all of this. Saturday afternoon Karli met her little man and shortly thereafter she went into emergency surgery and passed away. She loved Bodie and Willie more than life and fought with all she had. We love our little nickerbocker. Send all your love and special prayers to Bodie, Will, and family.

  1. I worked with Karli on GSU during the time she worked nights. She was an excellent nurse and coworker and always made the place a lot of fun even when things were tough. She was easy to get along with, and hard not to like. I was so excited for her and her growing family and heartbroken by this tragedy. My best wishes and prayer for Will and Bodie. I know we will all see Karli again in a better place one day. God bless!

  2. I met Karli through Will and Nancy's gardening business - and got to know Susie, Ed, Nancy, Will and Karli. What a wonderful, loving family. Mom and I were heartbroken to hear the news of Karli's passing. It just doesn't seem possible. I can't say it enough - you've been such kind and loving friends to us. Please know that you're all in our hearts as we mourn Karli's loss with you - and celebrate the new life of little Bodie! Deb and Katie Whitsitt

  3. I first met Karli in 7th grade. She was one of my good friends from that year on out. Always being friendly to everyone through her quick witted sense of humor and laughter. Karli always attracted people to her because of her smile and all around good vibes. The community of Reno will miss her very much and she has amazing friends that will love and care for Bodie in the days to come. We all loved you Karli and it breaks my heart that you are gone.

  4. Karli and I did gymnastics together when we were little girls. She was spunky and feisty and always full of silly jokes. She could always laugh at herself and have fun even when we were sick of training. She had the most expressive floor routine. Her music was to the Addam's Family. A piece of the choreography involved her faking a drunken hiccup. Hilarious! Never failed to get a chuckle out of even the grumpiest of judges. She loved her friends and we loved her. We had so much fun at sleepovers together. Her and Meagan fought endlessly as sisters do :) poor Meagan, we picked on her a little. We always got a kick out of her mom, Suzie who made sure us girls had a great time. As an adult, Karli and I ran into each other once in awhile, always reminiscing about old gym days. She was always happy to share tidbits of her life. She was so happy when I saw her when her and Will first got engaged. She was so excited to be getting married. Seeing the wedding pictures makes your heart melt and makes you smile. Karli was a wonderful person and will be sorely missed. My my heart breaks thinking that Will and Bodie will not get to see Karli as a mother because I know that she would have made the most amazing and loving mother. She will be watching over them from above. The most memorable thing about Karli was her laugh, so infectious and silly. All my love to her family. I am so sorry for your loss.

  5. Karli was such a unique person with a creative drive and passion for life that not many have. There was a time where I practically lived at Ed's and Susie's just because I wanted to be within Karli's presence. She cared for everyone and everything that crossed her path. She was always that one person out of a crowd you wanted to talk with because she was like no other. I will remember and cherish every moment we have shared. You will be forever missed Karls, Love you

  9. I met Karli when she started dating my cousin, Will. One of my fondest memories of her is one of my first. My now-wife and I came up to Northstar to meet Will and Karli for a late-season day of skiing/snowboarding. Strictly by a matter of physics (we're heavier), Will and I had gotten ahead. We stopped and looked back, and both Karli and Becky were right behind us. I'll never forget the grin on Will's face--his girl could charge. We both knew what our little nods meant: it was on!

That seemed to be the story as the years continued; Karli would bring out the best in herself and the others around her, and she always made Will happy. We are so blessed to have Karli as a part of our family, and will love Bodie so immensely both as a legacy to Karli and as a shining light of hope in our family. Karli will be missed terribly and remembered brightly for all the joy she brought to our lives.

  10. Bodie:

I had the pleasure of knowing your mother since she was a little girl. Your mother was best friends with my cousin, and we all grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools, and participated in the same functions. Karli was an amazing, positive, funny, caring person. She touched the lives of many people and was always a pleasure to be around because she was so positive, funny, caring, and BEAUTIFUL. I have always admired her spirit.

Your mother had a wonderful group of friends who would do anything for one another and which were always having fun and loving life to the fullest. This group of girls have been friends for as long as I can remember and every one of them are amazing in and of themselves. It takes a very special person to maintain friendships like this for such a long period of time. These women will always be there for you! You are a very lucky young man to have such a wonderful mother, father, family and now multiple 'aunts'. I know your mother will always look after you from above.

  12. Bodie,

I met your Mother at Swope Middle School and went to school with her at Reno High and at UNR as well. We ran track together, had spanish class together, snowboarded, and shared a ton of good memories. One word that comes to mind when I think about your mother is FUN, in every sense of the word. She was very light hearted, had a great sense of humor, joked with everyone, wasn't afraid to tell you what she thought about something, and had a seriously infectious laugh. I think everytime I saw your mother or hung out with her I would be laughing about something. Your Mom loved her family and friends very much and we all loved her.

With a Dad like Will and a Mom like Karli, I am pretty certain you are going to be an awesome kid and great man one day. Everyone who knew your Mom are going to really miss her, but just know that she is looking down over all of us, especially you.
